The Peaceful Warrior
Lately I have been reflecting on the power of the peaceful warrior and the importance of fighting injustice from a grounded, centered place, rather than from emotional outbursts. I certainly have felt both ways in the past week. I have been reflefting on heros in history like Martin Luther King Jr. and Ghandi and remembering how powerful their protests were because they came from a place of love, unity and alignment. All sorts of ideas have been spinning in my head about ways that I can help and this one came to me.
I began working with empty bullet casings a few years ago and making crystal jewelry out of them. It felt like a tiny rebellion to me to fill the empty casing with something powerful and positive instead of dangerous and violent. Making a statement through art is timeless. My bullet crystals remind me of Banksys grafitti piece “Love is in the Air" where the man with the mask if throwing a bouquet of flowers in place of a grenade. He debuted this piece on the West Bank Wall between Israel and Palestine in 2003, carrying the message of non-violent protest over hate, and anti war. A subtle, yet powerful shift in perspective.
I made this current batch of bullet crystal necklaces using rose quartz, the stone of peace, unconditional love, grace, gentleness and emotional healing. Let this be a reminder that we have the power to flip the script and uniting in peace is more powerful than uniting in fear, anger and violence. Wearing this necklace is a way to keep that reminder close to the heart.
I will be donating 20% of profits from each necklace sold to Migrant Justice Vermont to help fight the injustices of our fellow humans.
